Fiction: The Sympathetic Undertaker and Other Dreams by Biyi Bandele Told in flashbacks, this book depicts two brothers' reflections on their lives together. The novel tells of Rayo, a youth who dares to challenge the corrupt systems controlling the lives of his fellow countrymen. He starts with a school bully and eventually clashes with the centre of political power. Non-fiction: Soldiers of Fortune: Nigerian Politics from Buhari to Babangida (1983-1993) by Max Siollun The year between 1984 and 1993 were momentous for Nigeria. Military Rule crafted the conditions and character of today's society, forcing cataclysmic changes on the political, economic and religious landscape that nearly tore the country apart on several occasions. From the stern Buhari to the cunning Babangida, Max Siollun's “Soldiers of Fortune” is an account of coups and politics in late 80s/early 90s Nigeria in a clear and compelling way. Children and Young Adults: Chidi Only Likes Blue by Ifeoma OnyefuluNneka’s little brother Chidi is always saying that his favourite colour is blue. When Nneka asks him why, he replies, “because the sky is blue and my best shirt is blue.” So Nneka decides to teach him about other colours seen in their village and to tell him why she likes them. Ifeoma Onyefulu here introduces young readers to a rainbow palette, African style, with warm words and photographs offering a colourful glimpse of Nigerian village life.
