Tech bro/sis is a lingo used to describe a person working in a technological field. Over the last decade, this terminology has become increasingly popular due to the never-ending tech inventions and applications. From fintech to health tech to artificial intelligence, the list of fields that require tech has grown exponentially.
Working in tech has many stereotypes and one of the most common is that all tech bros/sis are coders. It will amaze you to know that there is a myriad of tech roles that do not require coding. Below is a list of non-coding tech options:
1.    UI Designer: A UI (user interface) designer or specialist designs the things that make the digital world easier to navigate. They create a visually engaging and intuitive interface for users of applications, websites, etc. While coding is an advantage to a UI designer, it certainly is not compulsory.
2.    UX Designer: A UX (user experience) designer is bothered by how the interaction between a user and an application feels. Most of the time, the job of a UI and UX designer are intertwined, and they both do not require coding skills.
3.    Website, App, and Game Testing: This is considered the coolest non-coding tech job because you have fun while working. Imagine playing PS5 as a job, such an exhilarating experience! The work involves figuring out problems or glitches and ways to improve on them.
4.    Graphics Designer: Graphics design is arguably the most popular non-coding tech option in Nigeria. Graphic designers create beautiful designs for advertisements, and other visual representations to communicate ideas or captivate consumers. The basic skill required here is art.
5.    SEO Specialist: A SEO (search engine optimization) specialist is a person who helps websites rank higher in search result pages on search engines like Google and Bing.
6.    Social Media Manager: A social media manager is someone who manages the face of a brand online i.e., on social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, TikTok, etc. They are usually employed by companies, celebrities, and other public figures. The major skill required here is keen understanding of the different platforms and the ability to adapt messages to suit these platforms.
7.    Technology Journalist: As deduced from the name, technology journalists are those who report on technology-related issues. Their duties entail monitoring technology trends, conducting interviews, doing research into the tech field, and reporting them. Much of what is needed is good research, writing, and oral skills.
One of the advantages of technology is how accommodating it is. Whatever your field, there is room for you in tech and coding is not at all compulsory. Start today and you can become a tech bro/sis in no time.
