ZODML Recommends: Meditation, The Iron Lady, Gerard Butler

Over the past few days several monumental figures of the twentieth-century have passed away, most notably film critic Roger Ebert and controversial British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. It only makes sense to remember both of them by watching movies: The Iron Lady, in which Meryl Streep embodies the politician’s every word and gesture; and Billy Elliot, a moving story about a young boy who wants to be a ballet dancer set in a mining town in Northern England during the upheaval of the Thatcherite years. If music is more your speed, I recommend spending a quiet afternoon listening to Ghanaian rapper Blitz the Ambassador’s second album Native Sun – a beautiful blend of hip hop baselines and afrobeat trumpets. I’ve seen him perform live with his band several times and hope that he makes a trip to this side of the Atlantic soon so I can enjoy the vibes in person again. - Mena Odu There is going to be so much noise in the house this weekend because my nieces and nephews are visiting! They will definitely have a lot of stories to tell me about their latest Play Station games and toys or the latest dresses in their wardrobe. And of course they want to watch cartoons too. If eventually I am able to get them to sleep then I would sneak up to my room and do a body scan meditation. - Morayo Oshodi While my fellow editorial buddies are meditating and reminiscing about Margaret Thatcher, I will be swooning over the Scottish yumminess that is Gerard Butler, and I recommend you check him out too. Ever since I saw 300 (Madness? This is Sparta!), I have watched every movie that he's in. Forget that rubbish he did with Jennifer Aniston, he has acted some good movies. And now, another one has come out: Olympus Has Fallen. Even though it looks like a typical action movie (which I love), I have heard good things about it, so I am happy that it is finally showing in the cinemas in Lagos, and I recommend you check it out so that we can all come back and talk about Gerard Butler it. - Ayodele Dele-Giwa Leave a comment, and let us know what you recommend. Have a great weekend!
